United States Courts of Appeals: First, Second, Third, and Eleventh Circuits

Carlos M. Sires' main practice area is complex commercial litigation. He has extensive experience in litigation involving class actions, business torts and other disputes, securities and banking, and real estate.

Mr. Sires has represented, among others, the Fresh Del Monte companies in litigation involving antitrust, intellectual property, insurance coverage, real estate, and employment; ADT Security Services in dealership litigation; Chase Manhattan Bank and Citibank in class action litigation; Transamerica in litigation concerning business disputes; Computer Associates in dealership litigation; several leading banking institutions, including First Union and Bank of America, in lender liability cases; Commonwealth Land Title in litigation involving dealership disputes; the General Development Corporation concerning its sales practices; Midland National Life Insurance Company with respect to claims under its policies; and Aeropostal Venezuelan Airlines in litigation concerning its ownership. Mr. Sires has also represented officers and directors with respect to securities litigation and claims under Directors and Officers insurance policies.

He is fluent in Spanish and has significant experience in litigation that has a nexus to Latin America, including Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Venezuela. He has tried cases in both state and federal courts, including a jury trial in the District of Puerto Rico. In 2006, Mr. Sires successfully defended Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc. and its chairman in the three-week jury trial in Miami-Dade County in which the plaintiffs asserted that bribes had been paid in connection with the acquisition of the Fresh Del Monte group of companies for a price allegedly $150 million under value. Mr. Sires also has appeared or argued in several of Florida's appellate courts and in the First, Second, Third, and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeals.

Prior to joining Boies, Schiller and Flexner, Mr. Sires was a partner in the national firm Kirkpatrick & Lockhart. He has taught business law at St. Thomas University in Miami and pre-trial civil practice at the University of Miami's school of law. Mr. Sires is listed in Chambers and Partners in the area of litigation and is annually included in Florida Super Lawyers and Florida Legal Elite.   Mr. Sires received the Daily Business Review’s award for Most Effective Lawyer in the area of class actions in 2009 and 2014.
