Adam Shaw is a member of the firm’s litigation group.  His practice focuses on business disputes involving commercial litigation, securities litigation and consumer frauds.  He has been involved in litigation and investigations in state and federal courts and in arbitration proceedings across the country and has been trial counsel in several cases that have been tried to verdicts before juries and judges.  Significant matters in which Mr. Shaw has been heavily involved include:

  • Counsel for a leading international construction company in a securities fraud lawsuit concerning investments in auction rate securities;
  • Serving as interim class counsel for a series of four nationwide consumer class actions involving violations of the bankruptcy discharge injunction.  In re Haynes, 2014 WL 3608891 (Bankr. S.D.N.Y. 2014);
  • Serving as counsel to the New York State Legislative Ethics Commission to conduct investigations and provide advice in federal court;
  • Successfully defended a multi-jurisdiction legal malpractice action concerning intellectual property advice;
  • Counsel for plaintiff consumers in a nationwide class action concerning Fair Credit Reporting Act Violations.  Radcliffe v. Experian Information Solutions, Inc., 715 F.3d 1157 (9th Cir. 2015);
  • Successfully represented a Fortune 100 silicones manufacturer in a series of securities fraud litigations concerning investments in auction rate securities.  In re Merrill Lynch Auction Rate Securities Litigation, 2011 WL 1330847 (S.D.N.Y. 2011; Dow Corning Corp. v. BB&T Corp., 2010 WL 4860354 (D.N.J. 2010);
  • Successfully represented sellers in post-sale litigation concerning earn-outs from the sale of a medical device company;
  • Successfully represented majority shareholders in dissolution proceedings involving a closely-held employment agency;
  • Defended leading telecom company in multi-jurisdiction class litigation concerning securities and accounting fraud.

Mr. Shaw leads the firm’s e-discovery practice and has been involved in discovery efforts in many of the firm's largest and most complex cases, including managing the discovery efforts in international and multidistrict litigation concerning antitrust, securities fraud, consumer fraud, intellectual property and commercial law.  He has led teams in the collection and review of terabytes of data from sources and custodians across the globe.

Mr. Shaw also devotes time to pro bono efforts and serves as pro bono trial counsel for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York.  After conducting over six trials and litigating dozens of other cases, Mr. Shaw received the Pro Bono Service Award from the Court.

Mr. Shaw is also the Vice President of the Federal Court Bar Association for the Northern District of New York and writes the column for the New York Law Journal entitles the “Northern District Roundup.”
