Louis Smith’s main practice areas include complex commercial litigation, antitrust and securities litigation and arbitration, with clients including both plaintiffs and defendants.

His prosecutorial representation includes the successful pursuit in arbitration proceedings of a bet-the-company contract claim brought on behalf of an in-store advertiser against a national grocery chain. His defense work includes defending an industry-leading telecommunications company against federal and multi-state class action securities claims, and the defense of an offshore marine construction company against federal and state antitrust claims brought by three of the world’s largest international oil companies. Additionally, Mr. Smith has counseled clients in such matters as negotiating settlements with joint venture partners and regulatory compliance issues.

Mr. Smith's pro bono work includes the representation of Native American plaintiffs in an action to protect burial grounds against the construction of a proposed casino and the representation of an Ethiopian political dissident in asylum proceedings.
