Mr. Mitev is a tax counsel at the Firm's New York City office.  Mr. Mitev focuses primarily on the domestic and international aspects of private equity and hedge fund taxation, and the formation, recapitalization, merger, sale, and liquidation of partnerships and LLCs. The nature and type of transactions that Mr. Mitev has worked on range from small acquisitions of several million dollars to large partnership reorganizations of over half billion dollars, and have spanned geographically from Canada, to Eastern Europe, and Latin America.

Mr. Mitev has authored several notable tax works, including one of the few books that are exclusively devoted to the taxation of the investment fund industry, "The Private Equity and Venture Capital Tax Manual", Published by the ABA in 2011 (ISBN/ISSN: 978-1-61632-868-9). The book is written by a practitioner for practitioners and offers a practical tool for spotting and resolving tax related issues in fund formation and M&A transactions in the private equity industry. The book is currently listed as a Best Seller on ABA's web store. In addition, Mr. Mitev co-authored, along with his colleague Matt Kaden, the tax book "Drafting Partnership and LLC Agreements: Tax Boilerplate, Allocation, and Liquidation Provisions," published by Matthew Bender (ISBN: 978-1-4224-7699-4).  This book is the authors' attempt at de-mystifying the tax language that is so prevalent in most partnership and LLC agreements today. The language originates from certain tax regulations that were written long time ago and were design to combat partnership tax shelters and its application and import is often misunderstood and considered by most to be quite esoteric. Mr. Mitev has also authored, or co-authored with Michael Kosnitzky or Matt Kaden, other articles, presentations and podcasts that are listed below.

Mr. Mitev has established a presence in the tax community. He is the founder of fund-taxation.com, one of the few leading blogs that are dedicated to the taxation of the investment fund industry. The blog is featured in the Finance category at Teachstreet.com (the online place where teachers meet students) and is also featured on LexisNexis Tax Center in the category of Tax Law Top Blogs (including as a nominee in the 2011 LexisNexis Tax Law Blog Nominees survey). The blog is often visited by associates of the IRS, Treasury, Congress and many of the leading and accounting firms across the country or abroad. Mr. Mitev is also featured on Lexis Tax Center under Contributor Spotlight along with the tax practice groups of McDermott Will & Emery, Sutherland and Pepper Hamilton LLP.  Lastly, Mr. Mitev participates in several committees such as the FATCA committee of the Wall Street Tax association, and also often contributes to discussions on the ABA's tax listseve which is considered one of the preeminent places on the internet for practitioners to exchange thoughts on topical tax issues.
