Philip Bowman has extensive experience representing clients in state and federal courts throughout the country at both the trial and appellate levels, as well as significant arbitration experience in a wide range of domestic and international disputes.

Mr. Bowman has been involved in many of the firm's significant successes, including its record-breaking $4 billion recovery on behalf of American Express in an antitrust case against Visa and MasterCard, its trial victory on behalf of Starr International Company, Inc., against AIG, its representation of Wachovia in litigation against Citigroup relating to the 2008 acquisition of Wachovia by Wells Fargo, and its representation of the Golden Gate Yacht Club in litigation relating to the America's Cup.  Mr. Bowman’s other clients have included Goldman Sachs & Co., Pacific Investment Management Company LLC, and the New York Yankees. 

His principal areas of expertise are:

Securities and Financial Products

Mr. Bowman represents financial institutions in securities, commodities, and financial products litigation in both state and federal court, as well as LCIA and FINRA arbitrations.  He has particular expertise in credit default swaps, including disputes under ISDA’s dispute resolution provisions.

Sports and Entertainment

Mr. Bowman has significant experience in the areas of sports and entertainment, including litigation and arbitration involving Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer and the America’s Cup.  He has been involved in every major dispute relating to the America’s Cup in the past decade, and is considered one of the world’s leading legal experts on the America’s Cup.  Mr. Bowman also has represented Grammy-winning recording artists, television and radio personalities, and major entertainment companies.

Active in pro bono matters, Mr. Bowman currently leads the firm’s work on behalf of immigrant children in cooperation with Kids in Need of Defense (KIND).

Mr. Bowman is a member of the Board of Directors of Fundahigado America, an organization supporting liver transplants for children in Latin America.
