Kristi L. Rupert Sawert, Ph.D., is an associate at the firm's Washington, D.C. office, where she focuses on patent litigation. Dr. Sawert is a registered patent attorney with particular expertise in the chemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnological arts.
Immediately prior to joining the firm, Dr. Sawert clerked for the Honorable Paul R. Michel, Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Previously, Dr. Sawert was an associate at a major Wall Street firm and at a leading intellectual property boutique in Virginia. She has experience representing many prominent American, European, and Asian corporations, universities, and government-funded research institutions, and worked with such diverse technologies as online Internet auction systems, wireless Internet products, pharmaceutical compositions, genes, proteins, stem cells, transgenic animals, dental applications, laboratory procedures and equipment, and synthetic chemical compositions.
As a graduate student at The Ohio State University, Dr. Sawert's research focused on the study of the human complement protein C4 of the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) in pediatric rheumatic diseases. She is the first author or co-author of several technical publications and has presented her work at international conferences.
