The Honorable Eugene Nardelli is Counsel in the firm’s New York City office. Until his retirement from the bench in 2011, Justice Nardelli served for eighteen years as a Justice of the Appellate Division, First Department, including two tenures as Acting Presiding Justice. Prior to that, he was an elected Justice of the Supreme Court in New York County, where he presided in the Criminal Term from 1986 to 1987 and in the Civil Term from 1988 to 1993. Before that, he served as a Civil Court Judge of the City of New York from 1975 to 1985, and during that time, Justice Nardelli served as an Acting Justice of the Supreme Court, Civil and Criminal Terms, from 1981 to 1985.

Before entering the judiciary, Justice Nardelli, who received his undergraduate and law degrees from Fordham University, was law secretary to Justice John C. Leonforte and served as a pro bono arbitrator for the American Arbitrators Association. He also served as counsel to the New York City Housing and Redevelopment Neighborhood Conservation Bureau, was twice elected Democratic District Leader of the 68th Assembly District, was a Delegate to the 1972 Democratic National Presidential Convention, and served as Chairman of the 21st District Congressional Planning Council.

Justice Nardelli is a member of numerous bar associations and has been honored as one of New York’s top judges throughout his career. He received the 1990 Charles A. Rapallo Award from the Columbian Lawyers Association; the 1992 Martin Luther King, Jr. Award for Leadership in Promoting Nonviolence and Social Justice from the New York State Commission and Institute for Nonviolence; the 1997 Kupferman Award from the Laymen’s National Bible Association; the 1999 Harlan Fiske Stone Memorial Award from the New York City Trial Lawyers Association; the 2002 Jewish Lawyer Guild Golda Meir Memorial Award; and the 2009 Civic Star Award for Extraordinary Commitment and Service to the Public from the Catalog of Giving of New York City. Justice Nardelli currently serves as a Member of the New York State Continuing Legal Education Board, a Member of the Policy Committee for the Departmental Disciplinary Committee for the First Department, a Special Master of the Appellate Division Pre-Argument Conference Program and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Interest on Lawyer Account Fund for the State of New York.
