In a landmark civil rights ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court has found in favor of BSF and co-counsel at Gibson Dunn that backers of Proposition 8, the ban against same-sex marriage in California, lacked standing to appeal the district court's finding that the law was unconstitutional.  The Court’s ruling paves the way for marriages to resume in California, the nation’s most populous state, setting an important precedent and marking a key victory for the gay rights movement. As BSF Chairman David Boies stated on Bloomberg Television, the standing issue is key because it demonstrates that there is no harm being done to any parties when same-sex couples are allowed to marry the people they love.
