BS&F Partner Stephen Zack Slated to be First Hispanic American to Lead the American Bar Association

BS&F Partner Stephen Zack has been elected as president-elect of the American Bar Association (ABA). A unanimous vote by the ABA's House of Delegates on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 has positioned Zack to become the first Hispanic American to become president of the Association. His one-year term as ABA president-elect is effective immediately.
In the ABA's highest office, Zack will focus broadly on the legal rights of Hispanics; civic education, diversity and cultivating the country's next generation of lawyers are also stated areas of importance for Zack. In his acceptance speech, Zack addressed access to the legal profession, saying, "Probably the most devastating effect of costly legal education will be the lack of lawyers providing legal services where they are needed most: for the poor, minorities and women. Over 80% of minorities have no access to our courts because they cannot afford lawyers. We need an entire new generation of lawyers to serve those who have no access, because without access there can be no rule of law."
