As China's Trade Clout Grows, So Do Price-Fixing Accusations
Manufacturers of Viatamin C and Mineral Used In Steel Are Cited In U.S. Civil Suits
The Wall Street Journal, 02.10.2006As Chinese pharmaceutical firms emerge as the largest producers of Vitamin C, mounting evidence of price-fixing has led American courts to claim international jurisdiction and investigate antitrust claims and the harm to U.S. consumers. To date, about a half a dozen civil antitrust suits have been filed against Chinese vitamin C manufacturers in various U.S. court. Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP, who is one of the firms that earlier won settlements of $1.2 billion for U.S. business overcharged by the European vitamen cartel, is one of the firms that filed cases against Chinese vitamin C makers.
