The New York Sun reports that BS&F client Bank of New York Mellon is being sued by the Russian government in Russian court for $22.5 billion. The case, which arisies out of a money laundering scheme involving two Russian emigres in New York in the 1990s, is the first known attempt by a foreign government to seek recovery under RICO. The article quotes Jonathan Schiller, co-founder and Managing Partner of the Firm, that the claim "'is completely invalid under U.S. law and would be quickly dismissed by a Russian court. . . . None of the required key elements of a RICO claim have been alleged, much less established.'"
