Kathleen Franklin Named To ABA's Inaugural DirectWomen Institute

Kathleen M. Franklin, a partner in the Albany and New York City offices of Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP, is one 21 women representing the inaugural class of the DirectWomen Institute.

The Institute is a new initiative of the American Bar Association, in which corporate counsels from a wide variety of companies from across the nation, partners in leading firms and members of academia meet for two days in New York. The goal of the meeting is to increase the numbers of women lawyers serving as independent directors on boards of large public companies. Institute participants, who include women from 13 states, will explore topics ranging from independence and oversight to issues of compensation and compliance.

“I am honored to take part in this ground breaking program and look forward to exploring oppor¬tunities for service as a director on the board of a public company,” Ms. Franklin said. In announcing the program, Karen Mathis, President of the American Bar Association stated: “We are delighted that such a diverse and outstanding group of women attorneys want to accept the challenge of serving on corporate boards.”

The DirectWomen Institute will take place on March 29 and 30, with the first class introduced at an awards luncheon on March 30.
