Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP is pleased to announce that it has committed to lease the 10th and 11th floors at 1401 New York Avenue in Washington, D.C., bringing the law firm’s Washington operations directly into the center of government and business. The relocation of the firm’s Washington office is in line with its overall strategic plan and will allow for continued growth, which recently has included the addition of several attorneys from senior positions in the White House and Capitol Hill to its already established roster of veteran trial lawyers.

Owned by Minshall Stewart, 1401 New York Avenue is undergoing a transformation designed by architect J.P. Spickler that is expected to be completed by 2016. The renovated building, which will be LEED Gold certified, includes a glass curtain facade that will allow floor-to-ceiling natural light, as well as 3,300 square feet of outdoor space with views of the White House, which is just half a block away.

The new 37,000 square feet of efficiently designed space on contiguous floors will provide a contemporary, stylish, and enhanced work environment for the firm’s 57 Washington-based lawyers, plus staff, with room for significant expansion. The firm’s growth has resulted in it occupying space at its current location on several non-contiguous floors. With the addition of lawyers from senior positions at the White House, Congress, the Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, as well as a stellar roster of talented associates, including several former Supreme Court clerks, the time was right for the firm to consider just such a move.

“Our practice is flourishing, and we have found an ideal space and downtown location that represents the nexus of our litigation, government and policy work, and provides ample room for our continuing growth,” said Boies, Schiller & Flexner Partner Michael Brille. “We intend to have a very contemporary, efficient design that will create an open and airy feel, with a lot of natural light, and a layout that will bring us closer together in a more collaborative environment as we prepare to represent our clients in trial and before various federal agencies.”

John Stewart of Minshall Stewart said: “We couldn’t be happier to welcome Boies, Schiller & Flexner to our most recent trophy-quality renovation project at 1401 NY Avenue, as the building’s anchor tenant. The building’s exceptionally high ratio of window line to floor area and new floor-to-ceiling glass facade will enable the design of a modern, stylish, highly efficient space that meets the needs of this cutting-edge firm, as well as its clients.”
