Boies Schiller Flexner announced today that John Wittenzellner has joined the firm as a partner in its patent litigation practice, further expanding the firm’s growing intellectual property trial bench.
John is a registered patent attorney and former engineer with experience litigating patent disputes as both a plaintiff and defense attorney. He has secured favorable outcomes, including jury verdicts, in high stakes patent cases involving wireless communications, semiconductor and electronic devices, data management technologies, and online and mobile gaming platforms.
“Boies Schiller offers a rare combination of elite trial capabilities and an entrepreneurial culture that allows lawyers to build and grow sophisticated practices,” John said. “It combines the reputation and support you get from a big firm with the flexibility and autonomy of a boutique. I’m excited to join a patent litigation team that is committed to growth and excellence.”
John has experience representing clients before federal courts throughout the country, including in the Eastern District of Texas; the U.S. International Trade Commission; the Federal Circuit; and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. Prior to becoming a lawyer, John worked as a semiconductor engineer. His legal experience has included working at both a global law firm with 1,000-plus attorneys and a litigation boutique.
“John has a proven ability to bring deep technical knowledge and translate complex concepts into compelling narratives for judges and juries,” said Ryan Dykal, co leader of the firm’s patent litigation practice. “He is a natural fit for our team and will be an immediate asset to our clients and cases.”
John is the seventh lateral partner focused on patent litigation to join BSF in the past two years, underscoring the firm’s continued investment in the practice. Recent additions include Ryan Dykal, Jordan Bergsten, and Mark Schafer in May 2024, followed by Blair Jacobs, Christina Ondrick, and John Holley in June 2025.
“We have been clear that patent litigation is an area of strategic growth for the firm,” said Chairman Matthew L. Schwartz. “The additions we’ve made over the past two years have positioned BSF to compete at the very highest levels in this space, and John is an outstanding addition who brings a good mix of skills to that team.”
