Andres has over a decade of experience advising investors and sovereign states in high-stakes commercial and investor-state international arbitration.

He has acted as counsel in over 10 investor-state arbitration proceedings administered by ICSID and PCA, as well as in numerous commercial arbitrations under ICC and UNCITRAL rules. His experience spans a diverse range of industries, including mining, telecommunications, energy, banking, oil and gas, and construction. In addition, he has served as secretary to arbitral tribunals in multiple commercial arbitration proceedings.

Before joining the firm, Andres practiced with a leading international arbitration team in New York and at two litigation boutiques in Peru, giving him a unique perspective on both civil and common law jurisdictions. He has also taught international arbitration at a Peruvian law school and has been a guest speaker on multiple occasions in the international arbitration course at Columbia University.

Andres’ experience includes:

  • Representing Peru in the successful defense of a $150 million claim brought by a U.S. gold trader under the United States-Peru TPA
  • Represented Peru in the successful defense of a contract and treaty based ICSID arbitration filed by five U.S. energy companies in the renewable energy sector
  • Representing Panama in a treaty arbitration brought by an Italian investor regarding the expansion of the Panama Canal
  • Representing Peru in the successful defense of a $46 million claim brought by a U.S. energy investor under the United States-Peru TPA
  • Representing Panama in a treaty arbitration brought by a Spanish construction investor under the Panama-Spain BIT regarding the expansion of the Panama Canal
  • Representing Peru in an ICSID arbitration filed by an oil and gas company over a breach of a concession contract dispute
  • Representing Peru in the defense of a $40 million ICSID arbitration claim brought by a Canadian mining company under the Canada-Peru FTA
  • Representing Peru in the defense of a $136 million ICSID arbitration claim brought by a U.S. investor under the United States-Peru TPA related to the operation of an oil refinery in the Southern Amazon region
  • Representing a Canadian mining investor in an ICSID claim against Mexico under NAFTA and USCMA
  • Representing individuals and companies in litigation before Peruvian courts across a range of sectors, including mining, telecommunications, infrastructure, oil and gas, energy, entertainment, and real estate
  • Assisting two commercial arbitration tribunals in construction disputes related to the development and operation of a major public transportation infrastructure in Peru.
