Geoff concentrates his practice on international disputes, particularly the monetization of commercial and sovereign bonds, loans, judgments, and arbitral awards. Described by clients as “sensitive to complex client dynamics and complex legal issues,” Legal 500 ranked Geoff in 2025 as “Tier 1” for International Litigation in Washington, D.C.

He has extensive experience in multinational matters involving fraud and misconduct, having run collection efforts spanning more than a dozen countries on five continents. In those matters, he uses his investigatory skills as a former federal public defender to design and execute global asset recovery strategies.

Geoff also regularly defends debtors, including state-owned enterprises, to mitigate the business and reputational risks associated with judgments and awards. He has developed and deployed counter-offensive strategies for debtors, including in cross-border insolvency matters.

As a public defender, Geoff helped exonerate three clients who spent a collective 59 years in prison for crimes they did not commit. More recently, he helped secure approximately $1 million for a Maryland exoneree in the first award of such compensation in decades. He has maintained an active pro bono practice fighting on behalf of clients who were wrongfully convicted and in seeking compensation for their wrongful convictions.

Prior to joining BSF, Geoff worked at international law firms focusing on international disputes.
