Joshua is an experienced litigator and problem solver with key roles as both in-house and outside counsel in some of the most significant litigation matters of the past decade.

Joshua distills complicated legal issues and case strategy into actionable recommendations that take into account business ramifications. His experience gives him insights into the ramifications that a litigation dispute could have on a company’s bottom line, whether it be civil, criminal, or regulatory in nature.

Joshua most recently served as Director of Litigation and Operations at Clipboard Health, where he was responsible for class action litigation, investigations, and crisis management. Prior to that he was in-house at Twitter, where he defended the company in a number of noteworthy content-related cases, including spearheading the work in Twitter’s successful cert petition to the U.S. Supreme Court in Taamneh v. Twitter.

A dual citizen of the United States and Ecuador and a fluent speaker of Spanish, Joshua has experience both internationally and domestically. Internationally, he has served as a key member of a team litigating before a human rights tribunal in a major case against FIFA seeking equality for women footballers. He also served on a crisis team seeking to resolve a diplomatic dispute between two sovereign nations.

Prior to attending law school, he taught history at Yale, UCLA, CUNY, and the New School after earning his Ph.D. in U.S. history at UCLA. Pursuing a focus in legal history, he has published articles on topics such as criminal justice and the use of history in constitutional law.

Joshua's representations include:

  • Winning an argument before the California Court of Appeal in a key copyright defense case for Warner Bros. involving the movie “The Judge” starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Robert Duvall
  • A major role in a week-long evidentiary hearing that ultimately led to the release of a woman wrongfully imprisoned for 11 years
  • The lead role in several Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals matters, including post arbitration litigation involving a major entertainment client, a Bivens claim, and a discrimination claim against a major university system
  • The lead role in the defense of Giphy against intellectual property claims in a key content dispute against Giphy, Facebook, Reddit, and others that resulted in a circuit split between the Third and Ninth Circuits
  • A key role in the oral argument preparation team before the U.S. Supreme Court in Fourth Estate Public Benefit Corp. v. Wall-Street.com
  • Service on the trial preparation team defending a firm client against a Martin Act suit in New York brought by the New York Attorney General
  • Work as the lead associate on the offensive discovery team in the landmark trade secrets case, Waymo v. Uber
